ADJOURNED REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />JOINT MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLTON AND <br />THE UTILITIES COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF COLTON <br />AUGUST 18, 1994 <br />In accordance with notice duly and legally given, an Adjourned <br />Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Colton, in Joint <br />Session with the Utilities Commision for the City of Colton, was <br />held on the above given date at 5:30 p.m., in the Council Chambers <br />of City Hall, Mayor Gonzales and Chairperson Cordova presiding. <br />CITY COUNCIL ROLL CALL: <br />Councilmembers present were Bennett, Sandoval, Rios, Beltran, Cook <br />and Mayor Gonzales. Also present were City Attorney Biggs, Acting <br />City Manager Gabriel and City Clerk Ramos. Absent due to vacation <br />was Councilmember Cisneros. <br />UTILITIES COMMISSION ROLL CALL: <br />Commission Members present were Butler, Lopez, Vannou, Vilches, <br />Warsh, Kalogonis and Chairperson Cordova. <br />Also present were Planning Commissioners Carvalho, Robles, <br />Delatorre, Sanders* and Planning Director Zamora. <br />PROPOSED WASTE NEWSPRINT RECYCLING PLANT WORKSHOP: <br />Chairperson Cordova introduced Mr. Harrison A. McCoy, Founder and <br />Chief Executive Officer of BEETEC Development Corporation of the <br />Inland Empire. <br />Mr. McCoy briefly outlined the reasons presented to MacMillan <br />Bloedel as to why they should locate in Colton. The reasoning <br />included the unique history of Colton, being the HUB for industry <br />and its unique advantages. He explained his position with BEETECH <br />and his association with Congressman Brown, who is a strong <br />supporter for technology transfer, environmental cleanup and <br />protection and creation of jobs. Congressman Brown is very <br />interested in bringing a technology center to this area and working <br />with a local university. This particular project would consist of <br />generation of a high quality fuel for the cement plant and <br />reduction of the material deposited in landfills through newspaper <br />recycling. <br />Mr. George Aguilar, Senior Vice President, BEETEC, pointed out the <br />proposed location at Slover and Pepper adjacent to the Portland <br />Cement Plant.
