PUBLIC COMMENT <br />Declaring the removal of Steve Cabral from the position of Acting <br />Police Chief as biased, unjust and unfair, the following persons <br />spoke in favor of the reappointment of Acting Police Chief Cabral: <br />Johnny Sierra, Gerard Hernandez, Arthur Ramos, Jose Peralez, Cathy <br />Quintero, Tom M. Rivera, Nancy M. Hernandez, Socorro Hernandez, <br />Kathy Reynosa, Lydia Rivera, Daniel Morales, Hope Villalobos, John <br />Villalobos, Maria Anna Gonzales, Mel Albiso, Frank Reyes, Elfego <br />Vallejo, Anna Vasquez, Raymond Roa, Anita Sierra, Sylvia Ramirez, <br />Audulio Ricketts, D. Raul Wilson, Elena Lightfoot, Yolanda Gomez <br />Daly, Don Sanders, Leta Paul, Manuela G. Sosa, Cynthia De La Rosa, <br />Rocky Fredrickson, Ignacio Longoria, Delia Rosales and Pat Chavez. <br />Those persons speaking in opposition were John Longfield, Charles <br />S. Jackson, and Jesse Valdivia, Sr. <br />Speaking on Alternatives to Violence and the responsibility for <br />peace in this community was Gala Gastineau. <br />Ms. Norma E. Smith said she would decline to speak and would <br />address her concern at another meeting. <br />Joining Mayor Gonzales in favor of reappointment of Acting Chief <br />Cabral, Councilmember Sandoval read a statement then called for a <br />polling of the City Council to determine its stance. <br />City Attorney Biggs cautioned that this matter was not on the <br />posted agenda; therefore, it was not an item that could be voted <br />upon. She indicated that a polling could be done; however, each <br />councilmember could decline to indicate his/her position. <br />Answering in support of Acting Police Chief Cabral were <br />Councilmember Cook and Mayor Gonzales. Making statements but <br />declining to vote were Councilmembers Rios, Cisneros and Bennett. <br />Councilmember Beltran voted in opposition. <br />Mr. Mel Albiso demanded that the matter be agendized for the next <br />City Council Meeting on June 7, 1994. <br />Recess <br />At 9:55 P. M. , Mayor Gonzales declared a brief recess. At 10: 20 P. <br />M., the meeting is reconvened with all Members present at the dais, <br />as heretofore. <br />Agenda Review: <br />As requested, Mayor Gonzales declared Agenda Item No. 2 would be <br />pulled for discussion and that Agenda Item No. 6 would be continued <br />to the next Agenda. <br />2 <br />MAY 17 1,994 <br />
