r Representing the Traditional Value Coalition, Reverend Stephen Anderson
said he opposed all three resolutions, based on the fact that this
matter has come about very quickly. He was aghast at the idea that the
City must come up with $25,000, which he declared to be a rip-off to the
City. He declared that corruption had come to City Hall. He objected
to the manner in which the matter appeared on the agenda one week ago
brought by Councilmember Sanders, which he found to be incorrect.
To save costs on his house, he said he sued the City to seek remedy;
however, he said his vote for gaming could not be bought and urged the
people to rise up and oppose it.
He was appalled at Councilmember Sanders' action which he described as
malfeasance and berated him for not speaking up to help his house
project. He declared this town deserves fairness; it doesn't deserve
corruption.
Councilmember Sanders responded that this item came before this body as
early as April and stated City Council was privy to information on this
matter. He said Rev. Anderson's remarks were unfounded. Councilmember
Bennett observed this was the section for public comment which meant
that Rev. Anderson could speak and address any issue.
Mr. Fred Cordova said he spoke vehemently against taxes and remarked
that he had asked several Council people to consider the card gaming as
a source of revenue for the City. The City needs revenue or the City
will have to lay off more employees. He pointed to the fact that on a
regular basis, buses, packed with senior citizens, make their way to
stateline or the indian reservation to gamble and the people are happy
to be there.
Prior motion to adopt Resolution R-92-95, with modification to the
language to include that it is in accordance with Business and
Professions Code Section 19819. Motion carried with Councilmember
Bennett and Mayor Fulp voting, "No."
RESOLUTION NO. R-92-95 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF COLTON, CALIFORNIA, CALLING AND GIVING
NOTICE OF THE HOLDING OF A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL
ELECTION ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 12, 1995, FOR
THE SUBMISSION OF A PROPOSED MEASURE.
Motion by Councilmember Beltran, seconded by Councilmember Sandoval, to
accept staff recommendation and adopt the resolution to request services
from the County. Motion carried with Councilmember Bennett and Mayor
Fulp voting, "No."
RESOLUTION NO. R-93-95 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF COLTON, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE BOARD OF
SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF SAN BERNARDINO TO
RENDER SPECIFIED SERVICES TO THE CITY RELATING
TO THE CONDUCT OF A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
4
SEP I i im
