Mr. Joseph Paul Seimanera, Colton, said he lived in the City for <br />five years and worked in law enforcement. Initially, he had been <br />undecided about Measure "A and found himself leaning towards "no" <br />vote. He visited Bell Gardens and investigated the issue and found <br />that maintaining jobs overweighed a lot of the negatives and said <br />the benefits of a casino were strong. <br />Mr. Fred Cordova thanked Public Works for its help in City <br />beautification. He pointed to the difficult subjects being <br />considered by Council such as privatization of the Sanitation <br />Department and possible sewer rate increases for repairs being <br />considered and stated that the casino can bring $40 million which <br />will benefit the City. He urged the residents to get out and vote. <br />Mr. John Longfield stated the Council had taken a neutral position <br />on the gaming measure and questioned the propriety of directing the <br />City Attorney to submit an impartial analysis. He posed questions <br />regarding fireworks committee, the community center and the <br />veterans memorial. City Attorney Biggs stated that State law <br />mandated the City Attorney to prepare the document. <br />Union Representation <br />Mr. John Romero, President AIW, Colton, said a petition was filed <br />with the Human Resources Director. He reported problems with SBPEA <br />in his attempts to contact the employees. He invoked Federal and <br />State laws for the City's conduct of a fair and honest election <br />regarding employee representation. <br />MAYOR AND COUNCIL ITEMS: <br />Board & Commissions Appointments <br />There were none. <br />MAYOR/COUNCIL COMMENTS <br />District 2 <br />Counci lmember/ Director Hutton reported they received the quarterly <br />environment mitigation fee from Solid Waste Management Department <br />in the sum of $62,500, which he presented to Mayor Fulp. <br />District 6 <br />Councilmember Sandoval thanked the residents from District 6 who <br />have volunteered to sit on commissions. He reported the work is <br />not through with South La Cadena and inquired if the lights would <br />be installed before Christmas. Electric Utility Director Clarke <br />said a meeting was scheduled with the contractor and it is <br />anticipated that construction would begin on Thursday morning with <br />the majority of the lights installed before Christmas. <br />7 <br />DEC 0 5 1995 <br />
