years; Deirdre Bennett, Councilmember for District 5, for full-term of four years; David
Sandoval, Councilmember for District 6, for full-term of four years; Carolina Padilla
Barrera, City Clerk for full-term of four years; Michael J. Williams, City Treasurer for
full-term of four years; and Measure Z to recall Mayor George V. Fulp carried with Karl
E. Gaytan elected as Mayor for the short term of two years.
Motion/second by Mayor Pro Tempore Cook and Councilmember Sanders to accept
the certification of election results carried with Councilmember Beltran and Mayor Fulp
absent.
RESOLUTION NO. R-140-96 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF COLTON, CALIFORNIA, RECITING THE
FACT OF THE PRESIDENTIAL GENERAL MUNICIPAL
ELECTION HELD ON NOVEMBER 5, 1996,
DECLARING THE RESULT THEREOF AND SUCH
OTHER PROVISIONS OF LAW.
RECOGNITION OF OUTGOING CITY OFFICIALS
Mayor Pro Tempore Cook thanked the outgoing City Officials for their individual
contributions of time and talent to the City of Colton and the assembly applauded
their achievements.
COMMENTS FROM OUTGOING CITY OFFICIALS
District 6
Councilmember Hansen said it had been a privilege for the responsibility offered to him
by the voters of District 6. He said there had been positive movement and recognized
there was slow progress in areas that encompassed another City and/or the County,
such as the intersection at La Cadena/Barton which is a County area. He thanked City
staff who had been very helpful.
District
Councilmember Sanders read Councilmember Beltran's farewell speech wherein he
thanked the citizens of Colton for allowing him to serve them as Mayor and
Councilmember. Indicating his heart was no longer in it and it was now time to stop,
Councilmember Beltran declared the last four years had been hard to endure when he
faced three recall attempts, one lawsuit and allegations of improper campaign
reporting. He warned citizens not to listen to false prophets and not sign any recall
attempts - other than those used for major crime. He concluded that it had been an
honor and a privilege to have served the community since 1962. He wished the City
Council much success in their endeavors.
2
DEC 31996
