ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING MINUTES <br />COLTON CITY COUNCIL <br />JANUARY 09, 1997 <br />In accordance with notice duly and legally given, an Adjourned Regular Meeting of the <br />City Council of the City of Colton was held on the above date, at 4:36 P. M., in the <br />Council Chambers of City Hall, with Mayor Gaytan presiding. <br />Mayor Gaytan invited Councilmember Sandoval to lead the assembly in the Pledge of <br />Allegiance. <br />Present were Councilmember Don Sanders, Councilmember John Hutton, <br />Councilmember Kelly Chastain, Councilmember Betty Cook, Councilmember Deirdre <br />Bennett, Councilmember David Sandoval and Mayor Karl Gaytan. Also present were <br />City Attorney Biggs, City Manager Freeman, and City Clerk Barrera. <br />PUBLIC COMMENT <br />Fire Chief <br />Mr. Steve Anderson, Colton, demanded an accounting on the selection of the Acting <br />Fire Chief. Mayor Gaytan stated that proper steps, outlined by City Ordinances, were <br />observed and said that he had not received any calls on this matter. CM Bennett <br />supported the role of the City Manager in this appointment. <br />City Attorney Biggs advised that this was a personnel matter and that there were <br />certain issues of confidentiality that could not be breached. For the record, she stated <br />that the current Fire Chief was on leave for health reasons and in his absence an <br />acting chief had been selected by the City Manager under his authority, provided by the <br />Municipal Code, in the normal course of business. As requested, she agreed to <br />provide written information on this protocol to the City Council. <br />STAFF REPORTS <br />CITY MANAGER'S REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS:\: <br />ORIENTATION <br />City Manager Freeman indicated the various City Directors and Staff Members would <br />make presentations to provide basic familiarization and orientation to the various <br />City Council Minutes - January 9, 1997 Page 1 <br />
