City Attorney Biggs announced that the City Council would meet in Closed Session pursuant <br />to Government Code Section 54956.0(b) to confer with Legal Counsel regarding five matters <br />of potential exposure to litigation. <br />City Attorney Biggs stated it was not anticipated that there would be reportable action. <br />At 6:53 P. M., Mayor Gaytan recessed the meeting to Closed Session. At 8:30 P. M., the <br />general meeting was reconvened with all Members present as heretofore. <br />AS TO THE REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY CLOSED SESSION ITEMS: <br />City Attorney Julie Biggs indicated that the Redevelopment Agency did meet in Closed <br />Session and did discuss the real property items regarding 411 E. Laurel and 2111 East Valley <br />Boulevard, Colton; and, further that the Agency did discuss one matter of potential exposure <br />to litigation. City Attorney Biggs said there was no reportable action. <br />At 8:35 P. M., Chairman Sandoval declared the Redevelopment Agency Meeting adjourned. <br />City Attorney Biggs reported that the City Council did discuss one item of potential exposure <br />to litigation and did confer with Legal Counsel regarding the refuse hauling contract with <br />Taormina Industries and on motion by CM Hutton, seconded by CM Sandoval, on unanimous <br />vote, Legal Counsel was authorized to release, by noon July 2, 1997, the legal opinion by the <br />law firm of Thomas Mort Prosser & Knudsen. <br />As part of the same motion, the City Council authorized Legal Counsel to act as the City's <br />representative, under the Taormina Contract, for all further negotiations and contact with <br />Taormina Industries, with regard to the contract and its performance in the City of Colton. <br />MAYOR AND COUNCIL ITEMS: <br />Presentations, Awards Proclamations <br />Mr. Ken Conway praised the hard work, training, and extra -ordinary performance by the <br />Colton Fire Department Explorers, who won the first and third place awards for the bucket <br />brigade, on June 7, 1997, at the Victorville Explorers Muster: Frank Armida (Leader), Felipe <br />Rodriguez, Jr., Jim Conway, Octavia Anista, Zack Campbell, Heather Schultz, Josh <br />Maldonado, Danny Romo, Marsha Armstrong, Mac Kenzie Barnett and Joe Mc Cann, Jr. <br />Fire Chief Hendrix thanked all of the Explorers and especially their parents. <br />MAYOR AND COUNCIL ITEMS: <br />CM Cook enthusiastically described the City's 110 birthday celebration to be held July 12, <br />1997, at no expense to the community.
