Interim City Attorney Carvalho announced that City Council would meet in Closed Session <br />conference with Legal Counsel pursuant to Government Code §54956.9(a) to discuss the matter of <br />Ct of Colton v. Allan Steward, San Bernardino Superior Court Case No. SCV3435 1. <br />At 6:25 P. M., Mayor Gaytan declared the meeting recessed to Closed Session and at 7:53 P. M,, <br />the meeting was reconvened with all Members present. <br />Interim City Attorney Carvalho declared that Council did meet to confer as previously announced <br />and that the only reportable action was to an item which was formally added, in Closed Session, for <br />discussion. She reported that City Council had selected and appointed Mr. Rob Steele as the <br />Redevelopment Agency Director, effective January 12, 1998. <br />MAYOR AND COUNCIL ITEMS: <br />Presentations, Awards, Proclamations <br />0 Proclamation presented to Tony and Jennie Perez in honor of their 50" wedding Anniversary. <br />0 Resolution (to be mailed) was read recognizing Frances Scroggs on her retirement. <br />0 Proclamation (to be mailed) was read honoring Mrs. Mary Caroline Waskom on her 108 1h <br />Birthday. <br />0 Winners of the holiday home decoration contest were announced. <br />0 Firefighter Brent Bailey updated Council on "Make a Child Smile" program. and invited them <br />to join the celebration at San Salvador Pre -School. He listed the dates for Fire Engine 6's <br />holiday tour. He thanked Council for the selection of Acting Fire Chief Hendrix. <br />0 Proclamation - East Inland Empire Association of Realtors, Inc. [no action] <br />0 Proclamation - Dr. Kem Phil [no action] <br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS: <br />Finance -Customer Service Representative Positions <br />Finance Director Vega explained why staffing was critical at this time. She submitted Stafrs <br />proposal to eliminate one full-time Customer Service Representative position and to establish <br />two part-time positions in the Finance -Customer Services Division for a savings to the <br />Utilities Department in the sum of $12,921, annually. <br />After discussion, motion by CM Bennett, seconded by CM Cook, to accept and approve <br />stafrs recommendation, with the understanding that said employees would be Customer <br />Service people only, carried with no opposition from Council. <br />Traffic - Speed Limits <br />Motion made by Mayor Gaytan, seconded by CM Bennett, to waive full reading and pass First <br />Reading of an ordinance amending the Municipal Code adopting speed limits.
