➢ Proclamation declared May 10-16, 1999 as Blue Ribbon Week; Police Captain Heusterberg <br />accepted. <br />➢ Certificates of Appreciation honoring the Historic Preservation Commission Members were <br />presented to Margaret Matich, Janet Cosgrove, Hope Luna, Linda Tripp, Lydann Lord and <br />William Kerrick <br />PUBLIC COMMENT <br />The following individuals voiced community concerns: Stan Stosel for IBEW; Bill Yahn; and, <br />Jean Ferrante. <br />MAYOR AND COUNCIL ITEMS: COMMENTS, INTER -GOVERNMENTAL AGENCY <br />REPORTS, INFORMATION SESSION: <br />INFORMATION: <br />District 5 - CM Bennett thanked Messrs. Yahn and Longfield for the bags full of pop -tops for the <br />Ronald McDonald House and suggested a committee be formed for a fundraiser. She noted the <br />Inland Temporary Homes Fiesta Challenge fundraiser on May 2, 1999. She remarked on her and <br />CM Cook's visit to Con-Egra, the grain mill. <br />District 4 - CM Cook reported that the City of Colton was one of 36 cities nation-wide selected to <br />participate in the Brownsfield pilot program and the City will receive $200,000 over the next two <br />years. A formal presentation, from the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency to the City of <br />Colton, was announced for April 22, 1999 at Fleming Park and the public was invited. <br />District 3 - CM Chastain announced the Street Faire and the Kiwanis Breakfast on Saturday, <br />April 24, 1999. She attended a SANBAG meeting. She invited the citizens to attend a joint <br />community meeting to help form ideas, identify improvements and the possible formation of a <br />task force committee for expenditure of $3.5 million on the Mt. Vernon Corridor Project Area. <br />She thanked Public Works for the resurfaced streets in District 3. <br />District 2 - CM De La Rosa thanked Utility Director Clarke and the Electric Department <br />employees for the lighting on Mill Street in District 2. He thanked the Public Works Department <br />for sidewalk, curb and gutter installation at Julian Grey. He announced plans for similar work at <br />Citrus, Bordwell and Jensen. <br />District 1 - CM Sanders requested that Parks and Recreation Commission develop an action plan <br />to address problems with the restroom facilities at the various parks and for ongoing park <br />maintenance. He urged citizen participation on 4/29/99 at Alice Birney School for the Mt. <br />Vernon Project Area. He informed that an item for a stop sign at Meridian and Randall Avenues <br />would go before the San Bernardino City Council, on 5/17/99, and approval was anticipated. <br />At Large - Mayor Gaytan expressed appreciation for positive comments to his State of the City <br />address. <br />City Council Mins April 20, 1999 2 <br />
