Sanders announced a town hall meeting at Paul J. Rogers School on March 18' and a town hall <br />meeting at 6:30 P. M., on April 7' in the Oak Rb" at the Medical Center. He noted <br />improvements in the District; the lattice program to enclose the water wells at the Watwood and <br />Meridian locations; vacant HUD homes and the stop signs at Randall and Meridian. He re -read <br />his letter dated February 22, 1999, a response to The Sun's editorial dated February 17, 1999 <br />entitled, "Colton Taking Wrong Tack on Mobile Homes." <br />District 5: <br />CM Bennett made public apology to Reynaldo Gonzales, Jr., regarding VICA. She recalled that <br />in February 1998, Council approved taking money from street improvements targeted for District <br />5 with the intent of locating alternative sources of funding for those street improvements and she <br />asked for a status report on this matter. She spoke about the pop -tops for the Ronald McDonald <br />House and Candy's Coffee House and its entertainer Gerald Colunga. She asked that Census <br />2,000 be scheduled for the next agenda for adoption of a resolution in support, including creation <br />of a committee to promote accurate reporting for proper funding. <br />At Lare : <br />Mayor Gaytan informed that VICA would be honored at the next Council meeting. He referred <br />to the Census information and said he had suggested the creation of a coalition. He indicated that <br />an IRS office would be opening in the Vanirs Tower in San Bernardino on Thursday of this week. <br />He announced a ribbon -cutting ceremony for the opening of the Peter Piper Pizza. <br />Cooley/Economic Development Cg=ration Board <br />Assistant to the City Manager Kively provided the history of the Cooley/Economic Development <br />Corporation Board and described the make-up of the Board. She recommended the appointment <br />of two Councilmembers to the Board of Directors. She indicated it was necessary to reaffirm the <br />appointment of CM Bennett, who presently sat on the Board and recommended the appointment <br />of a Councilmember to the vacancy on the Board. <br />MOTION/VOTE: Motion/second by CM Chastain/Bennett to appoint CM DeLaRosa to the <br />vacancy on the Cooley/Economic Development Corporation Board. Motion carried with CM <br />Grimsby absent. <br />Motion/second by Mayor Gaytan/CM Chastain to re -affirm the Cooley/Economic Development <br />Corporation Board carried with consensus of Council with CM Grimsby absent. <br />AGENDA REVIEW: <br />CM Garcia announced that City's budget had received a certificate and award for merit operations <br />and stated that the City's target for next year was the award of excellence. He congratulated <br />Finance Assistant DeAlwis and Staff for their hard work and achievements. <br />An error was noted in Item 5, Minutes dated February 16, 1999, on Page 4, third paragraph, <br />District 4 should correctly read District 1. <br />City Council Mins March 2, 1999 5 <br />
