City Attorney Derleth indicated that they would draft a resolution or ordinance <br />containing gift limitation language requirements. Also, draw up a policy that would <br />develop guidelines for past members working as consultants. <br />Consideration of Policy Providing Legal Defense of Elected Officials. <br />Discussion followed regarding the creation of a formal policy, to prohibit spending city <br />funds for legal defense of individuals with criminal indictments. Direction was given to <br />staff to draft a resolution that required the official or employee to be proven innocent in <br />the criminal action or proceeding before the City may consider a request to provide <br />legal defense. <br />Motion/second by CM De La Rosa/Bennett to direct staff to draft a resolution creating a <br />formal policy to prohibit the spending of city funds for legal defense of employees, <br />appointed or elected officials with criminal indictments. Motion carried upon unanimous <br />vote. <br />District Boundaries <br />Discussion followed regarding redistricting. The City Council asked the status of the <br />redistricting process and directed staff that this item return to the next agenda. <br />City Manager Parrish explained that the redistricting issue would be presented on the <br />September 18th agenda.
