Existing buildings or structures for which appliances for <br />modification are officially filed with the Colton Building and Planning <br />Department after the effective date of this ordinance and which are modified <br />to increase the floor space to 7,500 square feet or more shall be provided <br />with an approved automatic sprinkler system. <br />The total floor area of such building or structures shall be computed <br />without regard to separation walls and floors of less than four hours fire <br />Iresistive construction. The total floor area shall be computed, in the case of <br />a single story building, within each separate area surrounded by unpierced <br />separation walls of four or more hours fire resistive construction. Automatic <br />sprinkler system shall be installed in multi -story buildings 7,500 square feet <br />or more irrespective of the use of fire resistive and separation walls. <br />No automatic sprinkler system required by this ordinance shall be <br />installed without the prior approval of the Fire Chief of the Plans for the <br />installation, testing and maintenance of the system. <br />The term "automatic sprinkler system" as used herein means an <br />integrated system of underground and overhead piping, including a water supply <br />such as a gravity tank, fire <br />9 Y pump, reservoir, pressure tank, or conncetion by <br />underground piping to an approved water main which systems complies in all <br />respects with the requirements for such systems contained in Pamphlet No. 13 <br />and No. 13D issued by the National Fire Protection Association. <br />(f) Section 10.309(d) amended. Section 10.309(d) of the Uniform <br />Fire Code is hereby to read as follows: <br />(d) Groun B Division 2 occupancies. An automatic sprinkler s,,/stem <br />shall be installed in Group B, Division 2 occupancies where the floor area <br />exceeds 7,500 square feet as specified in Section 10.309(b) 5. <br />SECTION 8.
