than 10% relative humidity are not uncommon. These conditions contribute to an increased likelihood of
fire. Moreover, minor fires have a greater tendency of spreading rapidly due to such conditions.
Anplicable Uniform Code Amendments: 105.8, 202, 209, 902.2.6, 903.4.2,
1003.2.9, 1103.2.4, 1103.3.6.2, 1109.7, 2806, 304.7, 3010, 7702.2 .1.1, 7702.2.1.2, 7702.2.2.2,
7702.2.2.3, 7701.1.2, 7703.1.6, 7802.2, 9003, Appendix II -A - Section 7, Appendix III -A, Appendix IV -B.
2. The City is subject to extremely strong winds, commonly referred to as
"Santa Ana" wind conditions, which can reach wind speeds of up to 80 miles per hour. In addition, the
convergence of the marine shore air flow and the desert air flow creates steady winds on a daily basis in
the region. Finally, the City's topography is such that portions of the City contain small, brush -covered
hillsides, which either contribute to or create gusty wind conditions by causing natural funneling effects
and contribute to the increased potential for brush fires in the area.
Aonlicable Uniform Code Amendments: 105.8, 202, 209, 902.2.6, 903.4.2,
1003.2.9, 1103.2.4, 1103.3.6.2, 1109.7, 2806, 3004.7, 3010, 7702.1.1.1, 7702.1.2, 7702.2.2, 7702.2.3,
7703.1.2, 7703.1.6, 7802.2, 9003, Appendix II -A - Section 7, Appendix III -A, Appendix IV -B.
3. The City periodically experiences drought conditions and limited water
supplies. The drought conditions and limited storage capacity for water resources demands prudent
management of existing water supplies so that water conservation is encouraged and sufficient water
supplies are available for fire suppression purposes.
Applicable Uniform Code Amendments: 105.8, 202, 209, 902.2.6, 903.2, 903.3,
1103.2.4, 1109.7, 3004.7, 9003, Appendix II -A -Section 7.
4. The City, like much of the surrounding region, is subject to moderately
strong ground shaking from nearby earthquake faults. Colton has two fault lines, the San Jacinto and
Rialto -Colton, with two additional faults, the San Andreas and Sierra Madre, located in immediate
adjacent areas. Existing and planned developments are at risk from structural damage from earthquake
faults. The City's geologic position requires improved fire protection standards and access requirements
to assure that fire protection is available during earthquakes.
