1 (a) Whenever any ordinance of this city designates and describes any street or <br />2 portion thereof as a street the use of which is permitted by any vehicle exceeding a <br />31 maximum gross weight limit of three (3) tons, the city engineer is hereby authorized <br />4 to designate by appropriate signs, either the streets affected by the ordinance or the <br />5 streets not affected, as the city engineer determines will best serve to give notice of <br />6 the truck routes designated by the ordinance. <br />7 1 (b) When any such truck route or routes are established and designated by <br />8 appropriate signs, the operator of any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight <br />9 limit of three (3) tons shall drive on such route or routes and none other except that <br />10 nothing in this section shall prohibit the operator of any vehicle exceeding a <br />11 maximum gross weight of three (3) tons coming from a "Truck Route" having ingress <br />12 and egress by direct route to and from restricted streets when necessary for the <br />13 <br />14 purpose of making pickups or deliveries of goods, wares and merchandise from or to <br />15 any building or structure located on such restricted streets or for the purpose of <br />16 delivering materials to be used in the actual and bona fide repair, alteration, <br />17 remodeling or construction of any building or structure upon such restricted streets <br />18 for which a building permit has previously been obtained therefore. <br />19 (c) The provisions of this section shall not apply to (1) passenger buses under <br />20 the jurisdiction of the Public Utilities Commission, or to (2) any vehicle owned by a <br />21 public utility while necessarily in use in the construction, installation or repair of any <br />22 1 public utility. <br />23 (d) Those streets and parts of streets established by ordinance of the City <br />24 Council are hereby declared to be truck routes for the movement of vehicles <br />25 <br />26 <br />27 <br />28 <br />exceeding a maximum gross weight of three (3) tons." <br />
