1 (a) Whenever any ordinance of this city designates and describes any street or 2 portion thereof as a street the use of which is permitted by any vehicle exceeding a 31 maximum gross weight limit of three (3) tons, the city engineer is hereby authorized 4 to designate by appropriate signs, either the streets affected by the ordinance or the 5 streets not affected, as the city engineer determines will best serve to give notice of 6 the truck routes designated by the ordinance. 7 1 (b) When any such truck route or routes are established and designated by 8 appropriate signs, the operator of any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight 9 limit of three (3) tons shall drive on such route or routes and none other except that 10 nothing in this section shall prohibit the operator of any vehicle exceeding a 11 maximum gross weight of three (3) tons coming from a "Truck Route" having ingress 12 and egress by direct route to and from restricted streets when necessary for the 13 14 purpose of making pickups or deliveries of goods, wares and merchandise from or to 15 any building or structure located on such restricted streets or for the purpose of 16 delivering materials to be used in the actual and bona fide repair, alteration, 17 remodeling or construction of any building or structure upon such restricted streets 18 for which a building permit has previously been obtained therefore. 19 (c) The provisions of this section shall not apply to (1) passenger buses under 20 the jurisdiction of the Public Utilities Commission, or to (2) any vehicle owned by a 21 public utility while necessarily in use in the construction, installation or repair of any 22 1 public utility. 23 (d) Those streets and parts of streets established by ordinance of the City 24 Council are hereby declared to be truck routes for the movement of vehicles 25 26 27 28 exceeding a maximum gross weight of three (3) tons."
