Central Electric Air Conditioner: One or more factory made assemblies which
includes a cooling coil and an electrically driven compressor and combination
coil. The unit must be centrally ducted in a residence and have a cooling
capacity of no more than 65,000 btu's per hour. Room air conditioners are not
covered in this definition.
2. Central Electric Heat Pump: Same as a central electric air conditioner except
that the system also has the capability of heating by refrigeration.
3. Central Evaporative Cooler: A centrally ducted system which provides cooling
to two or more rooms in a residence where cooling is accomplished by evaporating
water in air.
4. Permanently Installed Electric Heating: Electric heating installed in a
residence which is a central electric heat pump, baseboard heater or other
permanently installed electric system.
5. Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) : The energy efficiency rating of a
central electric air conditioner or central electric heat pump as published in
the most recent edition of the Directory of Certified Unitary Air -Conditioners
The SEER will be based on the most common coil/condenser combination as published
in the most recent "Directory" when the coil is not replaced, when the most
common coil is installed , or when a coil resulting in a lower SEER is installed.
Should a coil be installed which results in a higher SEER for the system (as
published in the Directory) than the most common coil/condenser combination, then
the higher SEER will apply.
B. Policy
1. Residential electric customers of the City of Colton Electric Utility may
receive a rebate from the City of Colton for the purchase of new central electric
air conditioners, new central electric heat pumps or new central evaporative
coolers based on availability of funds and based on the scale below:
ISSUED BY
Gale A.
