SUBSTATION TEST TECHNICIAN <br />DEFINITION <br />Perform skilled electrical installation, maintenance, and repair <br />work for the City electric system on substations; and skilled <br />technical work in the testing, repair and calibration of protective <br />relays and systems, load control telemetering and supervisory <br />controls (SCADA) and related substation equipment. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br />Receives general supervision from the Substation Superintendent. <br />May exercise technical and functional supervision over lower level <br />assigned staff. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the <br />following: <br />Test, repair and calibrate protective relays and systems, control <br />circuits, power transformers, telemetering, load and supervisory <br />controls. <br />Generate reports and monitor information from the S.C.A.D.A. <br />system. <br />Troubleshoot circuit breakers, transformers, motors and other <br />substation equipment. <br />Use high voltage dielectric testing of cabling, buss work, <br />apparatus and vehicles. <br />Participate and assist in substation primary voltage switching. <br />Read and record findings from voltmeters and charts in substations. <br />Prepare work reports and maintain records. <br />Assume responsibility for the proper operation of protective <br />relays, substation switching control devices, metering and <br />telemetering equipment. <br />Develop maintenance and test programs and procedures. <br />Provide technical supervision to assigned staff. <br />May be required to work overtime and respond to call -outs during <br />off hours. <br />Performs related duties as assigned. <br />
