City of Colton <br />Youth Intervention Counselor (continued) <br />Desirable 4ualifications: <br />Knowledge of• <br />Principles and practices of youth and family counseling. <br />Community, recreation, social, and cultural resources. <br />Client needs analysis and evaluation. <br />Principles and practices of personnel supervision and <br />training. <br />Modern office methods, practices, procedures and equipment. <br />Ability to: <br />Communicate effectively with all age and ethnic groups of <br />varying socio-economic conditions. <br />Assess and analyze problems and make specific recommendations. <br />Design and present specific programs and/or services for <br />clients, parents, and community groups. <br />Prepare necessary narrative and statistical reports. <br />Work independently in the absence of direct supervision. <br />Supervise, train, and evaluate staff and volunteers. <br />Establish and maintain effective working relationships with <br />those contacted in the course of work. <br />Experience and Training: Seven years of a combination of <br />experience and training that would likely provide the required <br />knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to <br />obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: <br />Experience• <br />Three years of paid or volunteer experience counseling <br />adolescents. <br />Education• <br />An Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or <br />university with major course work in counseling, psychology, <br />sociology, human services, or a related field. A Bachelor's <br />degree and bilingual (English/Spanish) skills desirable. <br />
