Thursday shall be treated as a paid holiday. When one of the above <br />holidays falls on a Saturday, 10 hours shall be added to the <br />employees, floating holiday bank. When one of the above holidays <br />falls on Sunday, the following Monday shall be treated as a paid <br />holiday. <br />If Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, Christmas Day or New Year's <br />Day fall on a regularly scheduled day off, 10 hours shall be added <br />to the floating holiday bank to be used by December 31 of the <br />following year except for New Year's Day, which will be used by the <br />end of that year. <br />Section 3: Sick Leave <br />A. Accrual <br />Sick leave with pay shall be granted by the appointing <br />authority at the rate of eight hours for each calendar month <br />of service. Sick leave shall not be considered as a privilege <br />which an employee may use at his discretion, but shall be <br />allowed only in case of necessity and actual sickness or <br />disability. Unused sick leave shall be accumulated at the <br />rate of 96 hours a year. There shall be no limit on the <br />amount which can be accumulated. <br />B. Balance <br />Employees shall maintain a sick leave balance of 50% of <br />accrued sick leave unless a verified long term illness or a <br />medical practitioner's certification is provided. <br />Employees with less than 50'-. accrued sick leave on the books <br />may be required to provide medical certification for sick <br />leave use until the sick leave balance exceeds 50'-.. <br />Management will make a determination of this requirement on a <br />case-by-case basis. <br />Industrial accidents or injuries are exempted from the <br />requirements. Sick leave used to supplement workers' <br />compensation or LTD benefits will not be counted against <br />employee sick leave usage for disciplinary reasons. <br />C. Family Attendance <br />Employees shall have the option of using sick leave for <br />attendance on family members, or the employee may elect to <br />take leave without pay for attendance on family members. <br />Family members is defined in the City's personnel rules as <br />employee's father, father-in-law, mother, mother-in-law, <br />brother, brother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, wife, husband, <br />child, grandparent or grandchild. <br />ELECMOU - 1993 <br />GRJ:KD 071493 11 <br />
