R-84_95 <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF <br />THE CITY OF COLTON OPPOSING <br />REALLOCATION OF TRANSPORTATION <br />DEPARTMENT ACT FUNDS TO SOLVE <br />FISCAL PROBLEMS IN LOS ANGELES AND <br />ORANGE COUNTIES <br />WHEREAS, the Transportation Department Act (TDA) has for the last 25 years been <br />the lifeblood of public transit funding throughout California; and <br />WHEREAS, any diversion of TDA funds to solve the financial problems of Los Angeles <br />County, Orange County, or any other public agency in the State of California experiencing <br />significant financial difficulties unrelated to transit issues would constitute a precedent which will <br />injure public transit funding and the integrity of the TDA; and <br />WHEREAS, California transit agencies have made substantial reductions in service over <br />the last several years a result of financial shortfalls and any transfer of TDA funds will require <br />even greater reductions; and <br />WHEREAS, federal legislation has been introduced and is likely to be passed that will <br />result in substantial reduction in federal operating assistance for local transit agencies thereby <br />requiring a further reduction of local services; and <br />WHEREAS, reductions in transit services will inflect great harm on the millions of <br />Californians who commute on a daily basis to reach jobs, education and health care; and <br />WHEREAS, the voters of the State of California voted for local half -cent sales taxes for <br />transportation and not for any other purpose; and <br />
