R-41-02
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF COLTON REMOVING
CERTAIN PORTIONS OF OLIVE STREET AS A DESIGNATED
THROUGH STREET AND ORDERING THE PLACEMENT OF
CERTAIN STOP SIGNS THEREON
WHEREAS, Vehicle Code section 21354 authorizes a local authority to designate
any highway under its jurisdiction as a through street, to designate any intersection as a stop
intersection, and to erect stop signs at one or more entrances thereto; and
WHEREAS, Vehicle Code section 385 defines a "local authority" as the legislative
body of a city; and
WHEREAS, Vehicle Code section 21101 authorizes the City Council of the City of
Colton to designate, by resolution, highways as through streets and intersections and stop
intersections; and
WHEREAS, there is substantial evidence upon which the City Council may
reasonably adopt the stop sign design provided for in this Resolution, including the fact that the
subject intersection is near an elementary school and the City desires to provide every precaution
against injuries to minors traveling to and from the elementary school; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed the plans for the proposed intersection
and has determined that the proposed stop sign is the best way, given the City's resources, to
provide protection for the elementary school students, parents and staff coming to or from the
school.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLTON DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: The following portions of Olive Street, within the City of Colton, shall
hereafter no longer be designated as a through street:
Olive Street east of Sycamore Street westerly to Jackson Street; and
Olive Street east of Rancho Street westerly to the Eastern City limit.
SECTION 2: One stop sign shall be placed and maintained by the Public Works
department at the intersection of Olive Street and 2" Street for each direction of traffic traveling
along Olive Street.
RVPUB\JSB\628894
1
