CITY OF COLTON <br />EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II <br />DEFINITION: <br />Under the general supervision of the Public Works Supervisor or higher level supervisory <br />personnel, perform the full array of duties assigned to classes in the Equipment Operator series <br />including operating a variety of heavy equipment including a street sweeper, tractor -trailer, and <br />backhoe; assist other maintenance personnel in the performance of general maintenance duties; <br />demonstrate a full understanding of all applicable policies, procedures and work methods <br />associated with assigned duties; occasionally assist in the training of lower level Equipment <br />Operator positions; perform a variety of other tasks in support of assigned area of responsibility. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: <br />The Equipment Operator II is the journey level class within the Equipment Operator series and <br />is responsible for operating the full range of heavy equipment. Typically, however, incumbents <br />within this classification are responsible for operating street sweeping equipment. This <br />classification is distinguished from the next lower classification of Equipment Operator I by the <br />performance of more complex and responsible duties which includes the operation of street <br />sweeping equipment, and, in that it requires a class A license. <br />Note: Incumbents in this classification are subject to the Alcohol/Drug Testing requirements of <br />the Department of Transportation. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED: <br />May occasionally exercise technical and functional supervision over lower level maintenance <br />staff. <br />ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to the following) <br />• Perform the full array of duties assigned to classes in the Equipment Operator series and <br />operating the full range of heavy equipment including a street sweeper. <br />• Demonstrate a full understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods <br />associated with assigned duties. <br />• Operate construction and maintenance equipment such as dump trucks, skip loaders, rollers, <br />graders, boom trucks, tractor -trailers, crane truck, forklifts and various other equipment for a <br />variety of maintenance and construction purposes. <br />• Clean debris from ditches and other areas as necessary. <br />• Perform a variety of other construction and maintenance tasks such as driving a truck, <br />resurfacing roads and clearing brush from the right-of-way. <br />• Identify equipment needs for assigned projects; pickup and deliver equipment from <br />construction and maintenance sites as necessary. <br />• Install street barricades and cones prior to the performance of street repair activities; direct <br />and control traffic around work sites. <br />
