EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II CITY OF COLTON <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />• Perform preventive maintenance on assigned equipment including changing brushes on <br />sweepers and performing pre and post operation inspections. <br />• Clean and maintain streets, alleys, sidewalks and ditches. <br />• Respond to questions and concerns from the general public; provide information as is <br />appropriate and resolve complaints. <br />• Perform other related duties as required. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS: <br />Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, <br />turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand <br />movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far <br />vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push <br />tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the <br />incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot, and cold. <br />The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals which may expose the employee to <br />fumes, dust, and air contaminants. The nature of the work may also require the incumbent to <br />climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, drive motorized vehicles and <br />heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions, and often work with constant <br />interruptions. <br />QUALIFICATIONS <br />Education and/or Experience: <br />Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills <br />and abilities necessary for an Equipment Operator H. A typical way of obtaining the <br />required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of two years of experience operating <br />heavy equipment or the performance of related work, and a high school diploma. <br />License/Certificate: <br />Possession of a valid class A California driver's license. <br />]KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SHILLS: <br />Knowledge of <br />Street and other public works construction and maintenance equipment. <br />The operation, care, and preventive maintenance techniques for heavy equipment. <br />Provisions of the California Vehicle Code and other ordinances and rules involved in the <br />safe automotive operation on City streets. <br />Occupational hazards and standard safety practices. <br />Practices, methods, and materials used in general construction, grounds maintenance, and <br />general maintenance work. <br />Ability to: <br />Operate a variety of heavy equipment. <br />Perform semi -skilled construction and maintenance tasks. <br />Read and interpret maps, sketches, drawings, specifications, and technical manuals. <br />Perform labor intensive manual tasks for extended periods of time. <br />
