RESOLUTION NO. R-20-24 <br /> 1 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLTON, <br /> 2 CALIFORNIA, ADOPTING A REVISED RECORDS RETENTION <br /> SCHEDULE AND POLICY FOR THE RETENTION AND DESTRUCTION <br /> 3 OF OBSOLETE RECORDS <br /> 4 <br /> 5 WHEREAS, California Government Code section 34090, et seq. provides that, with <br /> 6 the approval of the City Council by resolution and the written consent of the City Attorney, <br /> 7 <br /> the head of a City department may destroy any City record, document, instrument, book or <br /> 8 <br /> 9 paper, under his or her charge, without making a copy thereof, after the same is no longer <br /> 10 <br /> required, provided that certain records are exempt from such destruction; and <br /> 11 <br /> 12 WHEREAS, the City's Records Retention Schedule was last updated in 2009; <br /> 13 and <br /> 14 <br /> is WHEREAS, due to changes in state and federal law regarding the retention of <br /> 16 public agency records, City staff has determined that the Records Retention Schedule <br /> 17 <br /> 18 requires further amendments in order for the City to be in legal compliance regarding <br /> 19 the retention and destruction of obsolete records; <br /> 20 <br /> 21 WHEREAS, to this end, City staff has prepared a revised City-wide Records <br /> 22 Retention Schedule and Records Policy for consideration and adoption by the City <br /> 23 <br /> 24 . Council; and <br /> 25 WHEREAS, the City Attorney has reviewed and approves the revised Records <br /> 26 <br /> 27 Retention Schedule and Records Policy, as evidenced by his signature on this <br /> 28 <br />
