DRAFT <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />RECREATION SERVICES SUPERVISOR <br />DEFINITION: <br />Under the general supervision of the Director of Parks, Recreation & Family Services, plans, implements and <br />oversees City -sponsored recreational activities at community and aquatic centers, park and/or recreational <br />areas for a variety of age groups. Exercises functional and technical supervision over subordinate personnel. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: <br />The Recreation Services Supervisor is a supervisory level classification responsible for planning, <br />coordinating and supervising activities of various age groups, and use of community facilities. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED: <br />Exercises functional and technical supervision over subordinate personnel and volunteer staff. <br />ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to the following) <br />• Assists in the development and implementation of goals, annual work plans, policies and procedures for <br />assigned City facilities and services. <br />• Creates, plans, organizes, schedules and leads a general program of recreational activities at City parks, <br />community center, aquatic centers, or recreation area for a variety of age groups with an emphasis on <br />youth and seniors. <br />• Participates in the selection, training, coordination and supervision of staff and volunteers and contract <br />instructors <br />• Recruits program participants through effective use of promotion and marketing techniques. <br />• Develops and maintains a master calendar of activities and events; confirms the use of City facilities with <br />scheduled groups; coordinates quarterly Community Newsletter. <br />• Coordinates activities and resources of community groups, school district, parent -teacher organizations <br />and other government entities to assess and provide the social and recreational needs for City residents. <br />• Confers with individuals requiring support services and assists them as required, i.e., completing forms or <br />referring them to required service area, as necessary. <br />• Prepares promotional and advertising materials including calendars, news releases and brochures. <br />• Assists with grant research and writing, fund raising and sponsorship development activities. <br />• Conducts statistical research, prepares oral and written reports and maintains appropriate records. <br />• Attends and participates in organizational and community meetings as necessary; stays current on issues <br />relative to community services; responds to and resolves community and organizational inquiries, <br />problems and complaints. <br />• Monitors developments related to community service matters, evaluates their impact on City operations <br />and recommends and implements procedural and program improvements. <br />• Responsible for safety issues for Aquatics and Recreation <br />• Participates in the development, administration and monitoring of Division budget. <br />• Schedules and coordinates facility use and contract instructors. <br />• Performs other related duties as required. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS: <br />Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, <br />and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand <br />movement, and fine coordination in preparing reports using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position <br />requires near and far vision in reading written reports and work-related documents. Acute hearing is required <br />when providing phone and counter service. <br />
