RECREATION SERVICES SUPERVISOR CITY OF COLTON <br />Page 2 of 2 <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Education and/or Experience: <br />Any combination of education and experience that has provided the skills and abilities necessary for a <br />Recreation Services Coordinator. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess <br />the equivalent of at least two years of responsible experience in the administration of recreation and <br />social service or a related area and the equivalent of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or <br />university with major course work in recreation, public administration, sociology or a related field. <br />License/Certificate <br />Possession of a valid California driver's license, Certificate in Standard First Aid and CPR. <br />Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor Certification required for some positions. <br />KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS: <br />Knowledge of: <br />Objectives, principles and philosophy of recreation, leisure and community services programs. <br />Recreation and social needs of various age groups. <br />Principles and practices of program planning, development, implementation, administration and <br />evaluation. <br />Program promotion and marketing and effective public relations techniques and methods. <br />First aid methods and safety practices. <br />Modern office equipment including a computer and applicable software. <br />Methods and techniques for basic report preparation and writing. <br />Proper English, spelling and grammar. <br />Ability to: <br />Provide leadership and supervise personnel and participants. <br />Train subordinate staff and volunteers. <br />Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. <br />Maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates and participants. <br />Operate programs within budgetary limitations. <br />Work independently in the absence of direct supervision. <br />Write reports and keep accurate records. <br />Courteously respond to community issues, concerns and needs. <br />Exercise sound, independent judgment within policy and procedural guidelines. <br />Skill to: <br />Operate an office computer and applicable software. <br />Operate a motor vehicle. <br />APPROVED BY CITY COUNCIL: <br />
