Books are sent to the Colton Public Library from the San
Bernardino County Free Library, and residents of San Bernardino County may
check out books from the Colton Public Library and make use of reference
• E 1 services. The County Library tax is collected from residents of the City
of Colton, but returned to the Colton Public Library according to contract.
i a
4 w1 It is desired that a cooperative Library system be established to extend and
wA improve library service standards as follows:
m.
w u
t' 1) Have cooperative book evaluation, and centralized book ordering,
cataloging and processing.
2 O
2) Purchase additional books for the San Bernardino County Library, which
at present does not have one book per capita, and for the Colton Pub-
, lic Library.
3) Establish record collections at the major San Bernardino County
Library branches so that with the record collection at the Colton
Public Library, records will be available for the whole library
system.
4) Establish collections of prints at major San Bernardino County Library
branches and at the Colton Public Library, so prints can be borrowed
by library users throughout the system.
5) Establish collections of films for the use of residents in the library
system.
6) Subscribe to New York Times and local newspaper on microfilm and
• purchase a reader-printer, so that material can be printed and sent to
libraries in the system to answer reference questions.
7) Employ 2 library consultants who in addition to doing selection of
• books and other materials, will supervise branch libraries. This will
make it possible to have a library consultant who will make frequent
visits to libraries which do not have experienced librarians in charge.
Occasional visits will also be made by librarians who specialize in
1 different types of service, but a library consultant will go fre-
1 quently to the libraries under her supervision, so the library staff
and the community can depend on services. She will be able to hold
story hourR, give book talks to groups, and take part in the cultural
life of the community.
•
PART A
1) Selection of materials can be coordinated as follows:
a) By having cooperative evaluation of juvenile books thrd joint
book evaluation meetings .
