Library Sept. 15, 1965 <br /> ' Library review cards with evaluation from reviewing tools, and <br /> with evaluation from Librarians who have seen the books, which <br /> can be used by the Colton Librarian in deciding what books to <br /> order. <br /> b) By selecting adult books from the reviewing tools on dates <br /> to be agreed on and by having book evaluation meetings. <br /> 2) Acquisition of materials as follows: <br /> a) Centralized ordering of books after selection has been made by 11:1441!" <br /> librarians from both libraries. The County Library receives <br /> 38-1/2 percent discount from Baker & Taylor on trade books <br /> this year. <br /> a1 <br /> .10 3) Organization and physical preparation of materials as follows: <br /> 40 <br /> 40 <br /> 0 a) Cataloging and processing new books by the San Bernardino <br /> County Library. There will be a twice-a week delivery to the <br /> Colton Public Library to get new books into circulation <br /> quickly. <br /> 4) Lending of materials: <br /> a) Books may be borrowed and returned at any library or bookmobile <br /> IDthroughout the system without penalty. <br /> b) Photographic charging is used at large branches, Gaylord charg- <br /> ing at medium-sized branches and bookmobiles, and hand charging <br /> at small branches. The Colton Public Library uses hand-charging, <br /> but plans photographic charging in the future. (The three <br /> different types of charging are used together successfully, <br /> and borrowers using branches with one type of charging can use <br /> a branch with another type of charging without difficulty) <br /> c) Length of loan is the same for all libraries. <br /> 5) Reference and research service: <br /> a) Reference questions which cannot be answered at branch libraries, <br /> bookmobiles or the Colton Public Library can be telephoned or <br /> mailed to County Library Headquarters for further research. <br /> b) Recommendations for better communication and transportation <br /> made as a result of the survey of the public libraries of San <br /> Bernardino County will be carefully considered in order to <br /> make faster service possible. <br /> 6) Interavailability of materials and information: <br /> a) Libraries may ascertain specific holdings of other libraries <br /> by telephone or by mail. Books are sent to the branch or <br /> public library making the request by delivery truck or mail. <br />
