-3_ -
Plan of Service - Colton Pub. Library & San Bernardino Co. Library Sept. 15, 1965
b) As a result of the surveys now in process for the public
libraries in San Bernardino County, for the Southern Califor-
nia Metropolitan area and the State of California, recommenda-
tions may be made for book catalogs or other records of
holdings for San Bernardino County, Southern California, or
for the whole state, which will make it possible to quickly
ascertain holdings for a larger area than is possible now.
p c) It is the intent of the library system to seriously consider
FO recommendations of the San Bernardino County Library survey
providing faster ways of communication and transportation of
materials.
(1) d) Books are available to all outlets of the library systems.
V
i+ e) Recordings which are not at present available for the San
Bernardino County Library, will be purchased so that a col-
® lection will be available at each regional library. The
Colton Public Library, which now has recordings, can serve as
one regional library, with Chino, Montclair, Fontana::, Rialto,
East Base Line, Yucaipa, Victorville, Barstow, Twentynine
Palms, Needles, Trona and Big Bear Lake as others.
f) Prints will be purchased for the Colton Public Library and 12
regional county library branches.
g) It is hoped that as a result of surveys the Pomona, Ontario,
San Bernardino City and Redlands Public Libraries become
centers for the circulation of films, and that a film center
be set up in the Barstow Branch Library for use of desert
residents, and in the Colton Public Library, so that films
will be available to library users throughout the system.
7) Equal access:
All of the services of each library in the system will be available on
the same basis to all residents of the area served by the system.
8) Total volumes available:
San Bernardino County Library--July 1, 1965, 354,480
95% that are currently useful.
Colton Public Library -- " " 38,406 - 80% useful .
9) New book titles added:
4,242 titles were added to the San Bernardino County Library,
and 1,077 to the Colton Public Library in 1964-65.
5,000 titles are expected for 1965-66, with a 25% increase in
the book budget over 1964-65, and with $223,188 anticipated from a
per capita grant for the San Bernardino County Library and $12,500
for the Colton Public Library to be used to purchase books.
5,500 titles expected for 1966-67.
