ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Rehabilitation, repair and reconstruction of the remaining park bench is categorically
exempt per article 19, sections 15301, 15302 and 15331, of California Environmental
Quality Act Guidelines. The removal of the other two park benches is not a discretionary
project under CEQA as the benches have been determined to pose a risk to public safety
and therefore must be removed.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Staff made inquiries to obtain a cost estimate for the restoration needed in order to preserve the
third bench, however no responses were received. Therefore, staff recommends the following
scope of work be completed in house:
• sandblast / waterblast to remove flaking paint
• apply a crack sealant where needed
• apply a protective coat
• apply a texture permanent coating to match the existing ambiance at Chavez Park
• apply a final sealer coat.
The corresponding costs are estimated not to exceed $1,800. These funds are available in the
Park Divisions Building and Grounds Maintenance account: 100-6150-6205-2250.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends:
• Removal of two of the three Chavez Park historic bench sets.
Restoration measures to be taken by City crews to preserve the condition of the third
historic bench set located at Chavez Park.
Attachments:
Exhibit 'A' — Pictures of the two benches currently taped off.
Exhibit'B' — Pictures of the third bench staff recommends preserving.
Report prepared by Maritza Tapia - Engineering Dept.
REVIEW TEAM ONLY
City Attorney: Finance Director: tAul
City Manag .
