ITEM #g
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF MAY 20, 2008
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: MARITZA TAPIA, INTERIM PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR
SUBJECT: AUTHORIZE THE AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION AGREEMENT FOR
THE IMPOUND YARD PHASE III PROJECT TO ROADWAY
ENGINEERING, IN THE AMOUNT OF $101,920.10.
DATE: MAY 13, 2008
BACKGROUND:
On November 1, 2005, City Council approved the construction of the Police Impound Yard on a
City owned lot located along Fogg Street, south of "M" Street. In July 2006, the construction of the
Police Impound Yard Phase I and II were completed; Notice of Completion was filed on June 06,
2006. These completed phases of the Impound Yard Project have developed approximately two
acres of the 3.63 acre parcel upon which the Impound Yard exists.
Due to the volume of vehicles the Impound Yard operation is experiencing, it is prudent to complete
the Impound Yard Phase III Project. This phase will expand the square footage of the Impound
Yard to its parcel lot (0163-232-24-000) boundaries. As designed this project was reviewed and
approved by the Planning Commission on January 22, 2008.
ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION:
The Impound Yard Phase III Project will extend the existing Impound Yard enclosure which
currently exists to the parcel lot boundaries. The scope of work required to accomplish this
includes: extending the masonry wall along the North and South property lines a total of 315 feet,
relocation of 351 feet of existing chain link fencing from the south side of the Impound Yard and
enclosing the new extension to the west property line, installation of new asphalt concrete pavement
of parking lot area, and construction of new driveway approach and sidewalk along frontage of
property.
As required by the Purchasing Ordinance Section 3.08.050 (c) this public project was formally bid.
Bids were
opened on May 1, 2008, as advertised.
