Sewer System Management Plan <br />City of Colton . <br />The SSMP provides written guidelines to assist and direct the City in <br />identifying and correcting deficiencies in the wastewater collection system. <br />The main areas of program implementation are sewer line cleaning and <br />video inspection, sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) response and mitigation, <br />agency notification, fats, oils, and grease (FOG) control program to reduce <br />or eliminate the discharge of FOG to the sewer, capital projects to replace <br />and/or repair and expand the sewer collection system, employee training, <br />and public awareness campaigns. <br />1.2 Goals <br />The general goals of the SSMP are: <br />• To effectively manage, operate, maintain, and improve the City's <br />wastewater collection system; <br />• To provide adequate capacity to convey peak flows; <br />• To provide notifications and reports to all required regulatory <br />agencies in a timely manner; <br />• To minimize the frequencies of SSOs throughout the City's <br />collection system; <br />• To effectively mitigate the effects of any SSO that may occur; and <br />• To raise awareness of FOG issues, promote Best Management <br />Practices and protect the collection system from FOG related <br />blockages. <br />To determine the effectiveness of the program and success in meeting the <br />stated general goals, the document contains specific goals and monitoring <br />mechanisms that track progress and provide feedback on performance that <br />allows continued improvements that will maximize SSMP effectiveness. <br />1-2 June 2009 <br />COMPLIANCE.
