ITEM NO.
STAFF REPORT
OWW
DATE: APRIL 19, 2011
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY C C
FROM: ROD FOSTER, CITY MANAGER
PREPARED BY: BONNIE J. JOHNSON, MANAGEMENT SERVICES DIRECTOR
SUBJECT: LABOR AGREEMENT WITH THE COLTON POLICE DISPATCH S
ASSOCIATION
RECOMMENDED ACTION
It is recommended that the City Council approve the following:
1. Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Colton and the Colton Police
Dispatchers Association (CPDA)
2. Resolution No. R-35-11 Approving a Change in the Paying and Reporting of the
Value of Employer Paid Member Contributions for the Colton Police Dispatchers
Association
GOAL STATEMENT
The proposed action will support the City's goal of meeting its ongoing fiscal obligations.
BACKGROUND
The City of Colton has eight (8) employee bargaining units, each under separate contract. Four
(4) of these contracts (known as MOU's) expired on June 30, 2010 and were recently
renegotiated and approved by City Council. Of the remaining four (4) that are set to expire June
30, 2011, this is the second one to be recently successfully renegotiated. Given the City's fiscal
condition, ongoing efforts are being made to renegotiate the remaining contracts prior to their
expiration dates as well.
ISSUES/ANALYSIS
The City has recently reached agreement with the Colton Police Dispatchers Association, the
second of the four groups with unexpired contracts to reach agreement.
