CITY OF COLTON
If'orPorete x
a
AGENDA REPORT0010 18877

1 014
For Council Meeting of February 2, 1993
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: January 14, 1993
FROM: GALE A. DREWS
Electric Utility Director
SUBJECT: Award of Contract for New Alarm System for the Electric Department Buildings, Substations,
and Property to Pacific Alarm Company in the amount of $7,268.00.
BACKGROUND:
The Electric department budgeted to install an intrusion alarm system that would protect the electric offices,
main substation building, adjoining property, and the Century substation, located in the Cooley Ranch area.
The Electric Utility has experienced numerous losses of material and equipment due to theft. The Century
Substation, located in a remote location from these facilities, has experienced theft of copper grounding wire
that was in place. There is an existing perimeter alarm located at the electric yard which secures the vehicles,
equipment, and some materials, however, this system is outdated and causes recurring false alarms to the
Colton Police Department that must be responded to.
DISCUSSION:
Request for proposals were received by General Services until 5:00 P.M. on October 8, 1992. Three Proposals
were received on this requirement. Staff members from the Electric Department and General Services evaluated
two of the three proposals. The third was completely out of scope for the requirement. It was determined by
staff that Pacific Alarm had the better of the two proposals to resolve the problems mentioned in the above
background information. In addition their proposal was the lowest cost.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that contract award be made to PacifiCAlarm System, in the amount of $7,268.00.
Report prepared by Robert Brack*,, Sub on$up/rintendent.
City Manager Concurrence
1 of 1 Item No Al-
