PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR/CITY ENGINEER CITY OF COLTON <br />DEFINITION <br />Under general direction, administers the activities of the Public <br />Works Department; develops and evaluates departmental plans, goals, <br />and objectives and advises the City Manager on matters pertaining <br />to departmental activities; supervises and participates in the <br />development, administration, and evaluation of public facilities <br />and engineering programs, including engineering, traffic signals <br />and street lighting and maintenance of public buildings. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited tol <br />the following: <br />Plan, organize! direct and administer the public works and <br />engineering activities. <br />Direct the interviewing, selection, training, and evaluation of <br />departmental employees; resolve personnel and operations problems <br />which cannot be handled by supervisors. <br />Serve as City Engineer and technical advisor to the City Manager, <br />City Council and department heads concerning public facilities and <br />engineering proposals and programs; develop comprehensive <br />recommendations for management use. <br />Confer with the City Manager, department heads, other government <br />agencies and engineers on Policies, programs, procedures and long- <br />range capital improvement programs. <br />Supervise the maintenance of records, official maps and files. <br />Direct the preparation of reports and correspondence. <br />Direct the formulation of a long term program of facilities and <br />engineering improvements. <br />Plan, direct and review the construction, operation and maintenance <br />of the City's traffic control systems, streetil sanitation and <br />recycling facilities and equipment. <br />Coordinate public works and engineering activities with other City <br />departments and outside agencies. <br />Prepare annual budget estimates and justification for public <br />facilities and engineering activities. <br />Review Plansf engineering reports, budget estimates and proposed <br />ordinances and regulations submitted by department staff. <br />Determine major' -policies, planning long-term programs and making <br />technical decisions. <br />Appear before the general public and the City at conferences and <br />public hearings. <br />
