CITY OF COLTON <br />FIRE SAFETY SPECIALIST <br />PAGE 2 <br />OUALMCATIONS: <br />Knowledge of: <br />Principles, practices and procedures of fire prevention, inspection, investigation, safety <br />education and enforcement. <br />Local, state and national safety codes, ordinances, and laws relating to fire prevention and the <br />storage, use and dispensing of hazardous materials. <br />Proper departmental procedures for the prevention and release of information to the public. <br />Ability to: <br />Interpret and implement the Uniform Fire Code, Uniform Building Code, National Fire <br />Protection Associations standards, state and local codes. <br />Interpret, apply and enforce state codes as they apply to state governed occupancies. <br />Gather, analyze, and evaluate facts and draw logical conclusions. <br />Communicate clearly both orally and in writing. <br />Apply and enforce City adopted codes, ordinances and procedures. <br />Compile data and information, maintain records and prepare reports and correspondence. <br />Interpret applicable codes as they relate to the storage, use and dispensing of hazardous <br />materials. <br />Create, develop resources, and present educational information in a clear and interesting manner. <br />Organize and implement activities and programs creatively. <br />Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of <br />work. <br />EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Any combination of experience and training that would likely <br />provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and <br />skills would be: <br />Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented with college courses in <br />fire science, public administration or related field. Completion of or successful challenge of <br />State Fire Academy Courses Fire Prevention IA, 1B and 1C. <br />Training: Two years experience in Fire Public Education or Fire Prevention related inspection. <br />LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION: Must possess a valid Class C California driver's license and have <br />a satisfactory driving record. <br />APPROVED BY COUNCIL: DECEMBER 17. 1991 <br />c*.*fshm johsWm safe Spee.doe <br />
