CITY OF COLTON <br />FIRE SAFETY SPECIALIST <br />DEFINITION: Under general supervision, performs fire inspections and hazardous materials <br />inspections of industrial, commercial and residential occupancies to insure compliance with all state, <br />county and local codes; conducts fire investigations; conducts fire prevention programs to educate the <br />public on fire safety and fire prevention practices. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES• Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: <br />Inspects industrial, commercial, residential properties and places of assembly to determine compliance <br />with all national, state, county and local fire prevention codes and ordinances. <br />Performs fire and life safety clearance inspections of hospitals, homes for the aged, child care facilities <br />and other state -licensed facilities, at the request of the state and county. <br />Performs fire safety clearance inspections for new business licenses. <br />Conducts investigations of fires to determine origin and cause. <br />Issues written notices of violation of fire prevention laws requiring elimination of fire hazards. <br />Conducts inspections to ensure the proper storage, handling and use of hazardous materials. <br />Prepares reports and correspondence and maintains records. <br />Works with other City personnel, primarily in the Building and Planning, Public Works, and Police / <br />Department. <br />Assists fire suppression personnel as required for fire prevention and/or inspections. <br />Develops and administers programs to educate the public in all phases of Fire Department operations <br />and disaster preparedness including fire prevention, fire suppression, E.M.S. activity, home safety and <br />earthquake preparedness. <br />Coordinates the activities of Fire Department staff and volunteers from the community in the area of fire <br />related public education. <br />Develops and coordinates the Fire Department's public relations programs including station tours, <br />equipment demonstrations and press releases. <br />Develops and coordinates the Fire Department's displays at various public events. <br />Performs related work as assigned. <br />
