City of Colton <br />WASTEWATER TREATMENT OPERATOR IN TRAINING (continued) <br />Operate trucks and light power equipment; may be required to service trucks and light power <br />equip; operate small tractors, front-end loaders and other light power equipment to maintain <br />facility grounds, disperse sludge in or clear sludge from drying beds; perform routine <br />maintenance and repair of facility structures and grounds; operate collection system inspection <br />and cleaning equipment; drive divisional vehicles between facility locations. <br />Prepare maintenance requests and reports. <br />Assist in the development and implementation of safety and operational procedure <br />improvements. <br />May be required to participate in an emergency standby program. Operators are expected to <br />respond to emergency calls which may involve collection system, lift station, and treatment plant <br />malfunctions; perform weekend duties, as assigned. <br />Perform other related duties, as required. <br />Knowledge of: <br />Working knowledge of facility, building, and landscape maintenance; function and basic <br />operation of pumps, motors, engines and other mechanical equipment. <br />Abilitv to <br />Learn to operate a variety of wastewater treatment processes and related plant equipment; <br />service and perform minor maintenance on plant equipment; maintain plant facilities and <br />grounds; learn to operate light power equipment; learn to perform routine sampling and <br />chemical tests; read meters, gauges and control panels; learn to identify and analyze changes <br />in influent/effluent flows and wastewater processes; determine the appropriate course of <br />action in emergency or stressful situations; maintain accurate records and document actions <br />taken; organize and prioritize work assignments; make routine arithmetical calculations; learn <br />and apply regulations, procedures and technical reference materials; recognize and respect <br />limit of authority and responsibility; establish and maintain cooperative working <br />relationships with co-workers and customers; tolerate the work environment associated with <br />wastewater facilities which includes working in and/or around sewer influent and wastewater <br />effluent. <br />EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION - Any combination of experience and education that <br />would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
