City of Colton WASTEWATER TREATMENT OPERATOR IN TRAINING (continued) Operate trucks and light power equipment; may be required to service trucks and light power equip; operate small tractors, front-end loaders and other light power equipment to maintain facility grounds, disperse sludge in or clear sludge from drying beds; perform routine maintenance and repair of facility structures and grounds; operate collection system inspection and cleaning equipment; drive divisional vehicles between facility locations. Prepare maintenance requests and reports. Assist in the development and implementation of safety and operational procedure improvements. May be required to participate in an emergency standby program. Operators are expected to respond to emergency calls which may involve collection system, lift station, and treatment plant malfunctions; perform weekend duties, as assigned. Perform other related duties, as required. Knowledge of: Working knowledge of facility, building, and landscape maintenance; function and basic operation of pumps, motors, engines and other mechanical equipment. Abilitv to Learn to operate a variety of wastewater treatment processes and related plant equipment; service and perform minor maintenance on plant equipment; maintain plant facilities and grounds; learn to operate light power equipment; learn to perform routine sampling and chemical tests; read meters, gauges and control panels; learn to identify and analyze changes in influent/effluent flows and wastewater processes; determine the appropriate course of action in emergency or stressful situations; maintain accurate records and document actions taken; organize and prioritize work assignments; make routine arithmetical calculations; learn and apply regulations, procedures and technical reference materials; recognize and respect limit of authority and responsibility; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and customers; tolerate the work environment associated with wastewater facilities which includes working in and/or around sewer influent and wastewater effluent. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION - Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
