CITY OF COLTON <br />WASTEWATER TREATMENT OPERATOR IN TRAINING <br />Under general supervision, operate and perform minor maintenance on wastewater treatment <br />facilities. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED <br />Receives general supervision from the Water Utilities Manager, Wastewater Superintendent and <br />Wastewater Supervisor. Receives direct supervision from the Wastewater Treatment Operator II <br />for wastewater treatment operations. May receive technical supervision from the Wastewater <br />Mechanic II, Wastewater Mechanic I and Wastewater Operator I. <br />DISTINGUISHING HA ACT .RT TI S <br />This is the entry level position for wastewater treatment and allows incumbents to gain the <br />experience needed to qualify for a Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate. <br />EXAMPLES OFDUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: <br />Operate the City's wastewater treatment facilities of varying age with a variety of treatment <br />processes, e.g., Clearotor activated sludge, Carousel (oxidation ditch) activated sludge, LEN NA <br />(aquatic biological pond treatment and anaerobic digestion), Rapid Infiltration Extraction (RIX). <br />Learn to operate and maintain all facilities. <br />Respond to emergency calls which may involve collection system, lift station and treatment plant <br />malfunctions. <br />Design and submit plans for the reorganization of operational problems to supervisor for process <br />change recommendations. <br />Operate and maintain (service, lubricate, and adjust and/or clean), D.O. probes, bar screen, <br />generators, pumps, digesters, boilers, oxidation ponds, percolation beds, activated sludge <br />processes, gas utilization equipment. <br />Check pumps, motors, hydraulic lines, structures, pressure tanks and mechanical equipment for <br />proper condition and operation. <br />Take meter, gauge and control panel readings and observe variations in operating conditions; <br />interpret all information to determine processing requirements; monitor and change flows and <br />processes within established parameters; report readings and processing changes on operation <br />logs and records. <br />Collect and perform routine biological and chemical tests/analyses (COD, settable solids, C12 <br />residuals, PH, DO, MLSS), record sampling and test results; prepare samples for testing in <br />central laboratory. <br />
