CITY OF COLTON <br />PUBLIC UTILITIES INSPECTOR <br />Under general supervision, performs sub -professional engineering inspection duties for water and sewer. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: <br />Receives general supervision from the Water Utilities Coordinator and Water Utilities Manager. <br />EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: <br />Provide continuous, detailed inspections of the methods and materials used in the construction of water <br />and sewer mains, water lines, water meters, sewer laterals and other related water and sewer <br />construction projects. <br />Review and interpret construction plans and specifications; consulting with supervisor on major <br />deviations. <br />Calculate materials, converting cubic measurements to weight for comparison to bid estimates. <br />Inspect a variety of underground structures, assuring authorized construction, trenching, line and grade <br />checking alignment of pipe and quality of joints. <br />Inspect backfilling of utility trenches. <br />Prepare detailed reports on work in progress and material quantities needed and used. <br />Investigate complaints. <br />Advise the public on construction codes and standards. <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Knowledee of: <br />Principles of algebra, geometry and trigonometry and their application to engineering. <br />Surveying and drafting procedures, instruments and equipment. <br />Methods and practices of public utilities inspection. <br />Materials testing procedures. <br />Ability to: <br />Make accurate engineering computations. <br />Make difficult sub -professional engineering inspections. <br />Perform simple drafting. <br />Understand and follow oral and written instructions. <br />Establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, officials and the general public. <br />
