Hutton <br />Director of Public Worksr1 <br />SUBJECT: Approval to Close "E" Street, "H" Street and Valley Boulevard Date: 10/29/96 <br />from Pensylvania Ave to 7th Street for repair & construction <br />on the BNSF RR tracks. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad is repairing, removing Wor replacing the rails at the crossings <br />listed below: <br />The specific locations of the Street Closures are as follows: <br />"E" Street Pennsylvania Ave to 7th St November 11,12,13,14 & 15, 1996. <br />"H" Street Pennsylvania Ave to 7th St November 18,19,20,21 & 22, 1996 <br />Valley Blvd Pennsylvania Ave to 7th St Mid -January 1997 to preclude interruption <br />of vehicular traffic during the holidays. <br />The proposed projects will consist of: <br />1. Removal of existing disconnected tracks through the crossings. <br />2. Construction of one track on the west side of the most westerly track through the <br />crossings. <br />3. Removal of timber crossing material and replacement with concrete crossing panels with <br />rubber inserts within the three crossings. <br />4. Repave the A.C. roadway track approaches per the vertical curve alignment plan. <br />5. A.C. pave the pedestrian walkway areas between the tracks and a minimum of 20 <br />feet from the outside tracks providing a smooth pedestrian walkway across the tracks. <br />6. Remove and reconstruct the raised island medians at Valley Boulevard. <br />This is a project which will not only benefit the RR itself, but also the City of Colton in general. The <br />particular crossings targeted are currently in disrepair, there is nothing between the tracks to buffer <br />damage to vehicles using these crossings and there is no pedestrian area crossing said tracks and the <br />area directly adjacent to the tracks (located within the RR right-of-way is in poor condition.. <br />Page 1 of <br />Item No. 14 <br />
