City of Colton <br />WASTEWATER MECHANIC I (continued) <br />Assist other wastewater staff in the performance of technical duties (e.g., operations, instrumentation, <br />painting) <br />May lead the work of others on assigned projects; may participate in development of safety/training <br />procedures, emergency plans and studies to improve efficiency and effectiveness. <br />May be required to participate in an emergency standby program. Mechanics are expected to respond <br />to emergency calls which may involve the collection system, lift station and treatment plant <br />malfunctions; perform weekend duties, as assigned. <br />Perform other related duties as required. <br />QUALIFICATIONS <br />Knowledge of: <br />Principles, methods, materials, equipment, tools and practices used in the construction, <br />installation, maintenance, repairand operation of mechanical equipment such as pumps, <br />engines and motors; troubleshooting techniques; safety principles and practices applicable to <br />mechanical maintenance; lubricant/oil ' properties and filtering techniques; calibration <br />methods; gas and arc welding methods and techniques. <br />Working knowledge of principles and practices related to electrical systems; design and <br />fabrication methods and techniques. <br />Skill in: <br />Gas and arc welding the use and operation of hand tools and measuringhesting devices; <br />mechanical maintenance and repair of pumps, motors and engines., <br />Abili to: <br />Troubleshoot mechanical failures; make mechanical repairs; understand and interpret/utilize <br />blueprints, schematics and manufacturer information on equipment; learn and apply <br />mechanical knowledge specific to wastewater facilities determine preventative maintenance <br />needs; drive equipment and operate tools safely; comply with safety practices and policies; <br />make decisions and use independent judgment; communicate effectively with members of the <br />public and co-workers; learn to operate collection system monitoring equipment and make <br />repairs; maintain accurate records and document actions taken; perform routine mathematical <br />calculations prioritize work assignments; project consequences of decisions; evaluate the <br />efficiency and effectiveness of equipment and make recommendations regarding <br />modifications and/or enhancements. <br />2 <br />
