CITY OF COLTON <br />MAINTENANCE WORKER H <br />DEFINITION• <br />Under general supervision, to perform a variety of semi -skilled and limited skilled manual tasks <br />in the construction, maintenance, repair and service of the Community Service Department <br />activities; and other related work as required. <br />CLASS CHARACTERISTICS: <br />Work of this class includes performing work of a manual nature which requires a moderate <br />degree of manipulative skill and previous experience in order to do an effective job. Work is <br />usually performed under general supervision, although the incumbent may lead a small crew. <br />Assignments often include the use of power -driven maintenance, construction, automotive or <br />other equipment. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: <br />Operates light duty trucks in picking up and delivering materials, debris, and supplies from place <br />to place. <br />Operates small tractors, fork lifts, tractor powered mowers, tree trimmer truck, skip loader, and <br />other automotive equipment. <br />Trims, prunes and removes street trees. <br />Performs semi -skilled and limited skilled manual work in assisting in concrete, brick, carpentry <br />and painting work, and in the repair of motors, meters, pumps, and other mechanical equipment. <br />Performs semi -skilled and limited skilled tasks in construction, maintenance and repair of <br />concrete and asphalt streets, alleys, sidewalks and curbings, including the raking of asphalt to <br />grade and the making of joints in the pavement, curb or sidewalk. <br />Performs a variety of semi -skilled and limited skilled gardening tasks, such as the planting and <br />transplanting of flowers, bulbs, shrubs and trees, trimming and spraying of shrubs and trees, <br />Preparing seed beds and planting of grass areas; lays out athletic playing fields and other <br />playground areas. <br />Operates small self-propelled riding mowers, power push mowers and trimmers in mowing <br />grass; operates compressor, pneumatic tools, power tampers, rodding machines and various hand <br />and power tools. <br />Operates and feeds a wood chipper. <br />Performs the tapping and repairing of water and sewer lines; construction, maintenance and <br />repair of headwalls, catch basins and steel and concrete pipe installations. <br />r <br />
