CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF AUGUST 5,1997 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR & CITY COUNCIL <br />APPROVAL: LEN WOOD, INTERIM CITY MANAGER <br />FROM: GRACIE FERNANDEZ HARMON, PERSONNEL DIRECTOR <br />SUBJECT: REQUEST COUNCIL APPROVE RESOLUTION FOR SETTING THE BASIC <br />COMPENSATION RATES FOR PART-TIME CLASSIFICATIONS OF <br />EMPLOYMENT AND RESCIND RESOLUTION R-80-97 <br />DATE: JULY 29, 1997 <br />BACKGROUND: Federal bill HR 3448 was approved by both Houses and signed by President Clinton on <br />August 20, 1996. This bill increases the minimum wage by $.90, in two steps, over a one year period. The <br />second step in the implementation of this bill increases the current minimum wage of $4.75 an hour to $5.15 <br />effective September 1, 1997. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS• To bring the City into compliance with the bill requires a $.40 per houe <br />r wag <br />increase effective September 1, 1997, to the following part-time positions: <br />• Library Page I <br />• Pool Cashier <br />• Recreation Aide <br />• Recreation Leader I <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: These are part-time general fund positions which are able to work no more than <br />1,000 hours per year. The maximum financial impact for the remainder of Fiscal Year 1997-98 is $3,096. <br />The affected departments will absorb the additional cost to their respective department. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: None <br />RECOMMENDATION:• That City Council approve the attached resolution setting the basic compensation <br />rates for part-time classifications of employment and rescind Resolution R-80-97. <br />Attachment: Resolution <br />Prepared by: Arleen F.
