CITY OF COLTON <br />INTERNET USE POLICY <br />PURPOSE: The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines for the use of the Internet for <br />individuals authorized by the City of Colton. The Internet is a business tool which will be <br />used in accordance with generally accepted business practices and current law reflected in the <br />California Public Records Act. <br />ACCESS TO THE INTERNET: Access to the Internet will be granted on an "as needed" <br />basis. All requests for access to the Internet must be formally submitted in writing, including <br />justification. <br />ACCEPTABLE USE: This statement represents a guide to the acceptable use of the Internet. <br />All individuals authorized by the City of Colton are expected to comply with this policy when <br />using the Internet in the course of conducting City business. <br />It is the responsibility of all individuals authorized by the City of Colton who use the Internet <br />for City business to be familiar with the Internet Use Policy. At a minimum, the City of <br />Colton expects every user: <br />1. To be aware that the City of Colton, shall be held harmless from any loss, expense, <br />claim or liability arising from or related to the use of the Internet by any user whether <br />authorized or unauthorized. <br />2. To respect the privacy of other users; for example, users shall not intentionally seek <br />information on, obtain copies of, or modify files, other data, or passwords belonging to <br />other users, or represent themselves as another user unless explicitly authorized to do <br />so by that user. <br />3. To respect the legal protection provided by copyright and license to programs and <br />data consistent with all City computer usage policies. <br />4. To comply with all City computer usage policies in regard to computer programs and <br />files available over the Internet. <br />5. To comply with all City computer usage policies when using electronic mail over the <br />Internet. <br />6. To be aware that, all communications and searches done over the Internet are not <br />confidential, and are property of the City of Colton. The City reserves the right to <br />access, disclose, and if necessary monitor all mail and/or searches done over the <br />Internet. <br />
