CITY OF COLTON <br />SUPERVISING BUILDING INSPECTOR <br />DEFINITION <br />To perform design review and inspection of buildings in the City; to provide technical <br />assistance to the Director; and to supervise the subordinate building inspectors and <br />clerical staff. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br />Receives general direction from the Community Development Director. <br />Exercises direct supervision over technical and clerical staff. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: <br />Conduct design review for conformance to uniform building codes and state, federal and <br />local laws and ordinances, including those related to structural, electrical, plumbing and <br />mechanical design. <br />Provide technical information regarding code and compliance methods to contractors, <br />developers, architects, engineers, other City staff, and the general public. <br />Review and resolve difficult and complex inspection and enforcement problems, issues <br />and conflicts. <br />Plan, develop, and administer instructional programs for building inspection personnel. <br />Prepare and submit a variety of reports, memos, and correspondence on code compliance <br />and inspection related matters. <br />Compile and maintain statistics on inspection activities and performance. <br />Review completed building permits to ensure that proper procedures have been carried <br />out in inspection and enforcement of codes, and maintain files; coordinate issuance of <br />certificates of occupancy. <br />Investigate and respond to a variety of inquiries, complaints, and requests for service. <br />Conduct safety training meetings. <br />Supervise, train, and evaluate subordinate building inspection personnel. <br />May serve as Acting Director in absence of the Director. <br />
