CITY OF COLTON <br />METER READER <br />DEFINITION• <br />To read electric and water meters; to compute consumptions and record readings; and to report <br />meter or service defects. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: <br />Receives general supervision from the Substation Superintendent. Technical supervision is also <br />received from the Meter Operations Supervisor. <br />Exercises no supervision. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: <br />Read electric and water meters for residential, commercial and industrial accounts; record <br />readings and compute consumptions. <br />Note readings which appear low or high, and report the need for testing and investigation of <br />possible meter tampering. <br />Report the need for repairs when malfunctioning meter is observed. <br />Respond to customer complaints and verify meter readings. <br />Reset and reseal meters and perform minor repairs when necessary. <br />Write reports and maintain a variety of files and records. <br />Wash and maintain vehicle; check gas, oil, tires and water. <br />May be required to work overtime in performing assigned duties. <br />Perform related duties as assigned. <br />OUALIFICATIONS: <br />Knowledge of <br />City street and address system, alleys, and hazards encountered in the course of work. <br />Abili to: <br />Read meters and record figures accurately. <br />Learn City billing procedures and policies of water and electric utility services. <br />
