4 <br />1 <br />2 <br />ORDINANCE NO. 0-12 — 9 7 <br />3 AN ORDINANCE ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF <br />COLTON AMENDING CHAPTER 2.02 OF THE COLTON <br />4 MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO ELECTION OF MEMBERS OF <br />5 THE CITY COUNCIL <br />6 <br />711 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLTON ORDAINS AS FOLLOWS <br />8 <br />9 SECTION 1: Sections 2.02.010 through 2.02.070 of the Colton Municipal Code are <br />10 <br />hereby amended to read as follows: <br />11 <br />12 112.02.010 Purpose and number of districts. <br />13 The purposes of this chapter are to establish fair representation of all <br />14 geographic areas within the City of Colton on the city council while concurrently <br />15 assuring that each member elected to the city council must consider the interests <br />16 <br />of the entire city in his or her decision making. This chapter establishes six <br />17 <br />18 geographical districts from which members of the city council shall be elected and <br />19 provides for continued at -large election of the mayor. The geographical districts <br />20 have been created in such a way as to assure as nearly equal population as <br />21 possible in each district according to the latest federal decennial census. District <br />22 boundaries may be amended from time to time as provided by law to assure <br />23 <br />continued fair representation. <br />24 <br />25 2.02.020 Definition. <br />26 As used in this chapter, the term, "from districts" means the election by <br />27 the voters of the entire city of members of the city council who are residents of <br />28 <br />T.
