HUTTON, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR <br />SUBJECT: RECOMMEENDATION FOR SELECTION OF CONTRACTOR <br />FOR THE PROPOSITION 116 BICYCLE LANE PROJECT <br />DATE: APRIL 24, 1997 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />At the Council meeting of March 18, 1997, staff was authorized to proceed with the <br />advertising for Proposition 116 Bicycle Lane Project. This notice and the subject <br />project are on a extremely tight schedule to assure State funding. The bid opening is <br />set for May 5, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. <br />SUMMARY: <br />Due to the time restraint, the results of the bids and staff's recommendation of <br />contractor selection will be provided as a supplemental document prior to the <br />May 6, 1997 Council meeting. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />This is a Budget Capital Improvement Project with funding from a State grant in the <br />amount of $172,048, of which $52,045 has already been received for engineering <br />design and project management. The balance of $120,000 is for construction of <br />Signage, Striping and some Pavement Rehabilitation. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL: <br />y s <br />None <br />:a <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends approval of the Proposition 116 Bicycle Lane Project and award of <br />contract contingent upon the supplemental document of the results of the bids and <br />findings of the lowest responsible bidder. <br />Report prepared by James R.
