AM8I 'ICAN FORENSIC NURSES
G. FAYE BATTISTE-OTTO, R.N.
President and CEO
Member, International Association of Forensic Nurses
MEMORANDUM
TO VIA FACSIMILE
ALL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES
PARTICIPATING IN THE SART PROGRAM-
FROM. FAYE BATTISTE OTTO, R.N.
PRESIDENT '
AMERICAN FORENSIC NURSES
DATE MAY 1, 1997 -
RE I CONTINUED PARTICIPATION IN SART PROGRAM
It is with sincere regret that we inform you that American Forensic Nurses can no longer participate in the Sexual Assault
Response Team Program.
Over the years we have seen the budgetary constraints of the various jurisdictions become more and more stretched. As a
result of these constraints, the reimbursement for sexual assault victims has been continually reduced. Unfortunately, these
reductions have forced our nursing staff to seek employment elsewhere in order to maintain a salary that will support them.
Without qualified registered nurses, quality service cannot be provided to the victims.
Regretfully, without a substantial -and immediate increase for the SART examinations, we must ceaseparticipating
effective May 15, 1997. From that date forward, all victims will be forced to go to the nearest emergency room for
treatment. Training and services will be available to registered nurses interested in enhancing their emergency room or
general nursing skills.
PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL OTHER FORENSIC SERVICES PROVIDED BY AFN WILL LREMAIN IN FULL
FORCE AND EFFECT.
Should you have any further questions regarding the foregoing, please feel free to contact us.
cc: Marcia Lentz, R.N., S.B.
