CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT (Continued) <br />For the Council Meeting of November 4, 1997 <br />SUBJECT: Approval to begin bid process for a type III engine for the Fire Department <br />F nt <br />t The Fire Department has always maintained at least 2 reliable engines in reserve to <br />ensure that fire companies remain in service when their front line unit is in the shop for <br />routine maintenance or for extended repair. When a reserve unit is not available, that fire <br />company is out of service, this also includes paramedic engine companies. This situation <br />has occurred on several occasions in the past 2' months. <br />The 97/98 budget included $56,500 to lease purchase one Type I Municipal En <br />gine t <br />replace the engines taken out of service and a Type III Brush Engine to replace the water <br />tender that was taken out of service. In light of the current budget issues facingthe city, <br />we conceded to reduce this amount to approximately �'� <br />Type III Engine for use as a brush eng' a as ll as a reserve egineand ase purchase only the <br />ALTERNATIVES: <br />Postpone lease purchasing the Type III Engine which results in reducing the first <br />alarm <br />brush assignments to the Reche Canyon/La Loma Hills areas and continue to provide one reserve engine. F <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />It is anticipated that bids will, be approximately $180,000 to $200,000, with 10 <br />annual <br />Payments of approximately $25,000. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />Staff recommends that the City Council approve going out to bid for a Type III B <br />Engine.
